Second Kid Starting Solids Wisdom

S

AND JUST LIKE THAT 💫 – a small man turned 6️⃣ months and our #solidfood adventures began!

Errrr SAUL-id foods — since his name is Saul… 😇

I’ve been doing #earlyallergenintroduction with him since 4 months since he had some atopic dermatitis and a first degree relative with #foodallergies (the Botero hands, v1). We started out with scant amounts of peanut butter, hummus, and almond butter but
1️⃣ he wasn’t developmentally ready for solids at 4 months and HATED it
2️⃣ I had a heart attack giving them to him every time since my older son literally licks the baby’s face all day
3️⃣ keeping hummus in the house will give me nightmares because 3 year-old Botero hands would find a way to sniff out the hummus and tunnel into it

SO I started with a mixed powder of various tree nuts, 🥜 , egg, and soy I would mix into pumped milk.

But as for his first entree, it was #babyledweaning mixed with purées because I believe all textures can fit in solid food introduction!

🥑+ 🍠+ a bison purée (bougie i knowwwww) but babies need heme (animal-based) iron.

The mallow, as we call him, grabbed a spoon, grabbed his food, and feasted. Much to the delight of the dog afoot because babies are MESSY even with a head to toe bib situation.

… and to prevent contact dermatitis, I smeared him with @aquaphorus to create a barrier between the food and his marshmallow skin.

The next morning he tunneled into MY kefir, cinnamon, banana, and steel cut oats.

Some babies (Moreno 1️⃣) show very little interest in solids for months. Some, this mallow, act like they have been doing this for decades.

I also offer an open tiny adorable cup @ezpzfun of water and practice a double hand hold.

We continue to offer mommy milk as usual. Solids are for the sensory experience, practicing oromotor coordination, AND nutrition (mainly.. heme iron.)

And yes, 6 month-olds without cows milk protein allergy can have some kefir ✌🏼

And yes, you can do #BLW as well as #purees. Fed is best, and whatever works best for your baby and family is best! Some babies just aren’t ready for BLW, and some are. Some PARENTS aren’t comfortable with BLW, and that’s okay! 🍽️🥢
